Meaning & Origin: Originating from the temple town of Mangalagiri in Andhra Pradesh.

The Process: Primarily a pure cotton weave, distinct for its tightly woven, crisp texture. The hallmark is the "Nizam border"—a dense, solid zari border woven alongside a completely plain, motif-free body.

Time Investment: 1 to 2 weeks. The warp is prepared through extensive street-sizing (stretching and brushing the yarn with rice starch on the streets).

The Artisanal Specialty: Mangalgiri is an exercise in restraint and minimalism. By keeping the body completely plain and focusing all the architectural weight on the heavy zari border, it achieves a striking, clean elegance.
